Medibot
Timor Leste
MediBot is a clinical decision support AI chatbot that enables primary care providers (doctors and nurses) in Timor Leste to query in their native language Tetun for medical decision support.
To facilitate easy access, the bot is integrated with Telegram and Whatsapp - channels widely used by physicians in Timor Leste. We have experimented with a variety of Large Language Models (OpenAI, Claude, Gemini), and have trained the bot on local clinical care documents, national guidelines, and standards approved by Timor-Leste’s Ministry of Health and the World Health Organisation.
This project is being piloted in collaboration with Maluk Timor, an NGO providing health services in Timor-Leste.
E-Health Records
Mae Sot, Thailand
In November 2022, Equitech Collective embarked on a project to transform clinic operations at Mae Tao Clinic, a 34-year old institution that delivers healthcare services to more than 250,000 migrants and refugees along the Thai-Myanmar border.
Through a rapid prototyping process with the clinic involving operations-technology redesign and iterative software development, the team designed a low-cost Electronic Health Records System that would help the clinic record patient information digitally at source, replacing time-consuming and manpower-intensive pen-and-paper workflows.
DevChamps
Mae Sot, Thailand
In October 2023, EquiTech Collective launched Devchamps, a coding bootcamp pilot for undocumented Burmese migrant students in Mae Sot, in a safe house along the Thai-Myanmar border.
This ongoing initiative, Devchamps, has proven to be more than an educational program: it has become a possible pathway for those displaced by conflict, equipping students with employable skills in software engineering in a setting where barriers to further education and long-term job opportunities have perpetuated poverty cycles for an entire migrant community.
Our intention through Devchamps is to enable these young people to build a brighter future for themselves and, in turn, contribute to the socio-economic development of their communities.
ID4ED
Mae Sot, Thailand
There are about 1.2 million migrant children from Myanmar, of which only a minority have access to documents that provide them access to public healthcare and education. By SaveTheChildren Thailand’s estimates, only 13% are enrolled in public schools and in reality this is likely much lower.
In partnership with SaveTheChildren, Equitech developed a safe, secure, and private digital identity and records system for undocumented migrants along the Thai-Myanmar border to collect and store administrative information needed for improving migrants’ legal status.
